Have you ever wondered about some of the beautiful trees you walk past every day? Do you know their names and types? Perhaps you'd like to plant a similar one in your own back yard, or you'd just like to know a bit more about your surroundings? Well now you can... Walk up to any tree in the leafy city of San Francisco and find out exactly what type of tree you're looking at! SF Trees will tell you both the Latin and the common name for that tree as well as all the other trees in your vicinity. Go on, give it a hug - you've already been introduced! This app is based on data provided by the San Francisco Department of Public Works (SFDPW) and contains details of the nearly 65,000 trees from the Golden Gate Bridge down to Daly City that they keep track of and/or maintain. You can search for trees around your current location, or look at trees in another area (out of curiosity, or perhaps for a friend or relative) via a simple search. The search can be as specific as house and street number such as "1509 Haight Street", an intersection eg. "Mission and 16th", or even just a ZIP code like "94102". Distances can be displayed in English or metric units (configured in the application preferences).
